Please welcome the Couri Center’s newest practitioner, Mary Cabell, MSN, APRN, FNP-C.

Mary Cabell attended the University of Illinois and graduated with a degree in Technical Systems Management.  Realizing her passion for nursing, she graduated with a BSN from Methodist College of Nursing in Peoria in 2007, where she worked at Methodist Hospital in Labor & Delivery for nearly 15 years.  Mary earned her MSN-FNP from Saint Francis College of Nursing in Peoria in 2020.

Mary completed her Urgent Care Fellowship at OSF, Peoria, IL, and has several years of experience in Urgent Care.  She also teaches OB clinicals to Bradley BSN students and is currently working on her DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree) at Saint Francis College of Nursing.

Mary lives with her husband and two teenage boys in Metamora, IL.  She enjoys watching her children’s activities, from robotics to baseball and football.  In her spare time, she likes to read, cook for family and friends, and travel.

We hope you get to know Mary a bit more from this recent interview:

What inspired you to work in healthcare/become a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner?

I loved working in Labor & Delivery and had toyed with the idea of going back to school off and on for years, but the timing never quite felt right.  Eventually, I felt like I was being called to do more, and along with the encouragement of some friends and peers, I started my Nurse Practitioner Journey.

What area are you most passionate about in women’s health?

I am passionate about making women feel comfortable and empowered, no matter their stage of life or health.  Taking care of patients is an honor, and I hope they feel that.

What is one word you would use to describe yourself?

Thoughtful.

If you really knew me, you’d know…

How much I love the beach and the Cubbies!

What are you most proud of?

My family!  My husband and I were so young when we met, and we have built a beautiful life.  He has always been my biggest fan and cheerleader, and I try to be his, too.  It’s so fun to watch our kids grow into young men.

What’s your favorite hobby or activity outside of work?

Reading, traveling, cooking for friends and family.

What message would you like to share with your patients?

I want my patients to be comfortable advocating for themselves, and I want them to feel safe doing that with me.  There’s almost always more than one way to solve a problem; just because the first thing didn’t work doesn’t mean there’s no other way to move forward.

Starting March 11, 2024, Mary will accept XXpressGYN Care existing patients of all ages between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., M-Th. She looks forward to meeting you!  For more information, call 309-692-6838.
